May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Many people consider there to be a stigma that surrounds the topic of mental health. But, we should take time to learn and talk about our mental state because it's as important as our physical health.

Take charge of your mental well-being this spring by doing activities that bring you joy. And break the stigma by learning common myths about mental illness.

Jim's Gift Supports Brain Cancer Research

About two years away from retirement as vice chair at GENCO in Pittsburgh, Pa., Jim started to lose some basic cognitive function and went to see his neurologist. Jim and his family learned that he had glioblastoma multiforme — an aggressive form of brain cancer and took action right away.

Turning to the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and its research partner, the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI), Jim had surgery to remove the tumor and had a successful recovery.

Jim and his wife were so impressed with the care he received they decided to support glioblastoma research at UPCI. Their generous gift established a study for neuro-oncology research and expanded their leadership role in developing novel therapies and imaging techniques.
